Yes… In the wilds of retail stores everywhere I see rampant beings foraging through aisles of self-imposed systems and realities. It can be entertaining and equally disturbing at times.

What was the last thing you did for play or fun?

Played Pokémon.
Especially when I’m exploring a different area, I enjoy seeing points of interest. Sometimes it will be a fascinating mural, a historical landmark, or a locals’ spot most touristy websites overlook.
The “gift” feature to send to “friends” in the game is also a fun way to share your travels. And for a couple of us who know each other IRL, it’s a quick check-in, like a 👋 or 👍.

EGG WHITES

With many people concerned about cholesterol, and the high amount present in the average American diet, a bowl of egg whites is a versatile canvas for all sorts of creations ranging from shakes to carb-substitution.
.
YOGURT

Another versatile high-protein item is yogurt. We’ve “dressed” this up with a simple teaspoon of honey, mixed in our favorite protein powder and topped a rice cake with it, and even made sauces.
.
DAVE’S KILLER BREAD

We love this bread for so many reasons! And, YES, I do remember going to the Saturday market by the river in Portland, OR, when Dave himself was handing out samples!
.
APPLES

Living in the Pacific Northwest with a thriving agricultural department through Washington State University, we get to enjoy so many varieties of apples! Sometimes we slice or quarter them and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon for a sweet and healthy snack.
.
COFFEE

We have quite the coffee culture with local roasters carefully crafting their blends, and we are fortunate to have a wealth of in-store carries from companies such as Bargreen’s, Whidbey Coffee, Tony’s, and many more. Our relatives from California always stock up when they visit!

What technology would you be better off without, why?
2018-2019 we utilized Doordash a lot… maybe even too much so.
As convenient as it was, the extra fees and tips could have easily gone towards greater quanitities of healthier, fresher, higher qualilty ingredients that are more satiating. I can honestly say the starting point for my wellness journey would have been a whole lot closer to my goals.
The other aspect of food convenience through delivery service is missing out on the ritual of the physical preparation with family and friends.
I’ve learned a few really fascinating culinary tips and tricks. Some of these from elders who’ve learned from their elders. Other times, I realized we’ve evolved a unique household culture in how we prep and measure. And, it’s always impressive to have sharp knife skills. 😉

“Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?”

Hiking into the mountains have been a sanctuary, especially this year for me.
Mountains are a place of peace, awe, and connection to life, abundance, and creative energy.
You celebrate your body:
- Eyes taking in the colors and rich landscapes…
- Nose breathing in the scent of green grass, cedar bark, larches as they turn gold…
- Ears hearing the rustling of leaves in the wind, the hawks in conversation as they hunt, the pikas peeping…
- Muscles reminding you of all you can do…
You are at a place free of judgement, labels, and expectations. You simply are, and you get to be you. You get to breathe and be.
And when you get to be somewhere and truly be you, you get to enjoy some of the most amazing, deep, and sometimes emotional, conversations that can happen nowhere else.

What are you most proud of in your life?
So far, I am most proud of completing 75 Hard twice, and Phase 1 once. Going through these processes helped me:
• Lose 30+ pounds the first time.
• Rewire my mind and become in tune when I was falling off my own program.
• Learn to protect my time and energy.
• Process the idea of failure as part of self discovery.
• Reframe fear and discomfort.
• Realize only I can save myself.

9/11/2001 was the major historical event that changed everything.
Before 9/11, I remember my friends and I traveling freely with only our driver’s licenses or even student I.D.s. Family and friends could accompany us all the way to the airplane gate. If you’ve ever watched airport scenes from the “Home Alone” movies from the 1990s, you’ll notice A LOT of things happening that would never be allowed post 9/11.
… and now, we are identified, screened, and monitored at a level we never imagined.
The second event that has profoundly shaped the way we interact with each other was SARS-CoV-2 that most mainstream media reported to have been discovered in 2020.
Most startling to observe were how the periods of isolation affected our young people, and how families and neighbors became so divided.
And we’re still seeing the tertiary, even quaternary repercussions.

What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?
In precolonial Philippines the women were valuable in counsel, spiritual guidance, trained in warfare, and allowed to have independent wealth.
This energy and intuition brought balance and insight, especially when the leaders of different groups met to resolve disputes or create strategic alliances.
Today, we see glimmers of this in the FMA community and beyond.
